Destroy All Humans Big Willy Unleashed

The oh-so-hilariously titled Destroy All Humans: Big Willy Unleashed is yet another game that follows on from a series last seen on the PS2 and original Xbox. What this means is we can expect mediocre visuals and a rehash of tired gameplay elements with the Wii console controls lazily shoe-horned in to the experience.

Big Will Unleashed puts you in the slimy boots of Crypto the alien as he invades 70s America. You’ll run and fly around destroying buildings, abducting people and blowing stuff up with a variety of comedy weapons. The anal probe of course makes an appearance, then there’s a shrink ray and zombie gun.

The ‘Big Willy’ of the title is a giant mascot for a fast food chain run by aliens that’s turning people into meat. At some places in the game you’ll get to take charge of Big Willy and rampage around the city, in a sequence that’s more than a little reminiscent of the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man from Ghostbusters.

Aside from the very poor visuals and woefully childish sense of humour, Destroy All Humans is also scuppered by an awful control scheme where the Wii remote dictates the position of the camera, but it is overly sensitive and fiddly to the point of frustration, meaning even walking in a straight line is a constant battle.

Verdict:

The original Destroy All Humans wasn’t an amazing game, and this badly made sequel is no kind of improvement. Ugly, boring and annoying. One to avoid.
