Little Kings Story

Little King’s Story is a game in the same vein as Animal Crossing, Pikmin and many other games where you control a cutesy character in a town full of cutesy characters who spend their days chopping down trees, fishing and collecting knick-knacks to decorate their houses.

Visually at least it bares a striking resemblance to Animal Crossing. The colourful, bright graphics are very attractive in a cute way, and it’ll definitely appeal to kids. It’s nothing special, but it’s not an ugly game either.

Unlike Animal Crossing you’re not just an average person in a world of bizarre animal-creatures, you play a king with your own castle, land and citizens to command. At the start you get a basic castle and a small area to explore, plus a few people to boss around.

Being a king you don’t want to get your hands dirty, so your citizens handle all the hard work. Each type of citizen has a different set of skills, so you can send farmers off to dig and soldiers to fight. At first you only get 5 citizens to command, but as the game progresses this eventually goes up to 30.

Since not all of them can do every job you’ll need to have a team that’s best at whatever task you’re doing at the time, but once it starts throwing enemies at you soldiers are essential for protection.

As you get more money and items your skills and citizen types increase, and you have to build houses and gain land. It’s repetitive, but like so many games of this type, very addictive. The game keeps hooking you in with some new skill or item and this constant promise of something new just around the corner is enough to keep you playing.

This will not appeal to everyone, but Little King’s Story is a very addictive slice of light strategy that can easily result in entire days being lost to its whimsical charms.
