Get Fit the Fun Way!

Wii Fit, the latest sensation from Nintendo, uses a motion-sensing balance board to give players a fun workout.

Anyone who has played some of the Wii s motion-controlled games knows that they can be quite a workout, and the unique Wii Fit takes that concept to a whole new level.

The package includes a game disc and the Wii Balance Board that looks like a step aerobics board but is actually a sophisticated, floor-based game controller. When you step on the sturdy balance board, it senses your weight and movement and uses that data to control exercises designed to improve your balance, posture and fitness.

To get started, you create a profile, choose a Mii and enter your height and birth date. Then you step on the board to measure your center of balance. The board then weighs you and calculates your Body Mass Index (BMI).  Based on your test results and actual age, it calculates your Wii Fit age.

Wii Fit can help you lose some pounds through four types of exercise: balance games, strength training, aerobics and yoga and it will keep track of what you do and how much time you spend on them. You can even enter a target date on a calendar and Wii Fit will help you to stay on track to meet your goal.

  •  Balance Games: Get into the action with fun, balanced-based games like Soccer Heading, Ski Slalom, Ski Jump, Table Tilt, Tightrope Walk, Balance Bubble, Penguin Slide, Snowboard Slalom and Lotus Focus.
  • Strength Training: Put your strength to the test with fun muscle-toning exercises like Jackknife, Single Leg Extension, Arm and Leg Lift, Torso Twists, Rowing Squat, Single Leg Twist, Push-Up and more.
  • Aerobics: Following an onscreen class of dancers, you step on and off your balance board to perform interactive aerobic exercises like Hula Hoop, Super Hula Hoop, Basic Step, Basic Run, 2-P Run, Rhythm Boxing, Advanced Step, Free Step and Free Run.
  • Yoga: Work on your balance and flexibility with activities like Half-Moon, Dance, Deep Breathing, Cobra, Bridge, Shoulder Stand, Spinal Twist, Warrior, Tree, Sun Salutation, Standing Knee, Palm Tree, Chair, Triangle and Downward-Facing Dog. Your own virtual personal trainer demonstrates how the routines are done whilst relaxing New Age music plays.
  • As you spend time exercising, you will earn Wii Fit Credits to unlock additional activities and exercises within your favourite categories so you can continue to push yourself.
  • Up to eight family members can create their own Wii Fit profiles. On the profile-selection screen, everyone can see each other’s recent BMI progress and Wii Fit Credit total. This allows families to have a friendly competition to get fit.
  • There are other ways to keep fit, but Wii Fit makes it fun and easy – especially for couch potatoes like you and me.
